Acoustic Guitar Finger Picking - Bare Fingers Or Finger Picks?

At some point in a guitarist's career, he or she gets to a stage where they want something more out of their guitar, something a little more complex. Strumming is fine and a great way to accompany yourself while singing, but it can be limiting. For example, if you have just one point of contact (a plectrum) with the strings, it's hard to create complex musical patterns even if we move a hands very quickly.

Of course, some flat pickers are amazing and learn very special picking techniques to 'speed pick', which can be incredibly fast. Doc Watson was such a picker, re-creating traditional fiddle tunes on his guitar, but even he knew that for some songs finger picking was needed. The one huge difference between using the individual fingers instead of a plectrum is that we can pinch two strings together at the same time. This is impossible with a plectrum.

Once we decide to start finger style guitar, there's another choice to be made first which might not be so obvious to the beginner. Finger pickers either just use their bare fingers to hit the strings, or a combination of metal or plastic picks. Others prefer a plastic thumb pick with bare fingers, it's all a matter of preference and playing style, although there are no strict rules about the matter.

Bare fingers make a very soft sound, but the player can feel the strings which tends to increase control and promote a delicate touch. The downside is that the tips of the fingers can get very sore, and at least an hour's practice a day is need to keep the callouses tough and ready to play. On the other hand, picks are a natural amplifier and give a sharper, clearer sound - great for players performing in noisy locations, such as busking in the streets.

It's to understand why some of the classic blues men playing in noisy bars from Texas to the Delta would sometimes use a National Steel or similar resonator instrument in combination with steel or plastic picks. The notes would easily cut through the hub-bub of a noisy crowd of people. Another option is to use your own nails, but your touch should be gentle because they will be worn down very quickly, even if reinforced with lacquer. It's also possible to buy false acrylic nails that are simply glued to the natural nails.

Lastly, the angle of attack for all types of playing preferences are very different, but the necessary changes are easily assimilated. Perhaps the biggest challenge is to use bare skin for some songs, and picks for others. This means that you would need to be very comfortable with both angles of attack and be able to switch from one style to the other at will.

Learn How To Train Your Dog From The Pros

puppy training guide

Part of dog training is first training yourself. Before an owner is able to train their dog, they need to know what they are doing themselves. The ability to train dogs is not instinctive; an owner has to learn before he or she can teach. That article will give some solid advice needed to prepare for training a dog.

While training your puppy or dog to use a crate, introduce him to new concepts slowly and gradually, so he is able to adjust to the changes without feeling stressed. When your dog appears to be at ease while inside the crate with the door ajar, you can help him adjust to the crate even further by slowly latching the door and rewarding him with treats fed to him through the spaces between the wires. Gradually increase the amount of time your dog spends in the crate, starting with just a few seconds. If you notice the animal becoming tense or confused, you are probably proceeding too quickly.

Enforce the commands that you give your dog. Do not let up until they complete the task you have asked them to do. If you are not serious about making them do what you have commanded, then they will learn that they don't have to do it. Follow through is key to training.

Always use your dog's name when issuing commands. When training your dog, it is important to be able to get and maintain their attention. Using your dog's name when giving a command will make them focus. Use your dog's name often. Get them used to both hearing and responding to it.

Your dog's behavior during walks should become habit through consistency. Teach your dog to focus on you and your physical clues about their behavior. Teaching them to walk with you should come naturally to them if you are leading and demanding the attention of your dog. If you are walking with purpose, it will be emulated by your pet.

When working on teaching your dog a command, keep training sessions short. It is much better to train your dog for 5 minutes, 3 times a day, than all in one 15 minute session. This will keep your dog focused. Before your dog gets bored, end the session. This will keep him interested and wanting more.

Whenever you want your dog to complete a task, you must reward it. After all, the point of rewarding him is to show him that he is following good behavior. This is how they'll know what to do and what not to do.

If you don't want your dog to chew your furniture, making it unpleasant, can help. There are many clear and odor free products on the market that you can put on an item. These products will make the item taste bitter or unpleasant, thereby, deterring your pet from chewing it.

When housebreaking your puppy, accidents will happen. Always immediately clean-up any messes your dog makes. If you don't clean accidents up quickly, your pet may smell the mess and eliminate in the same spot again. Look into different cleaners, especially enzyme cleaners, available at any pet store.

Do not call your dog to you for a scolding. You might still be angry at the dog for the trouble he has just caused, but do not punish him for coming when called. It should always be "safe" to come to you when called, and the dog should feel that you are glad to see him.

A good dog training tip is to hire a pet sitter to watch your dogs when you're going on vacation, instead of leaving them in a kennel. Kennels are a terrible place to leave your dog when you're away. In kennels, animals are often neglected and it's not uncommon for them to become ill.

Teach your puppy the "Leave it!" command. This command is very important in day-to-day situations. Use it if your dog tries to grab food off a table or eat rabbit poop when you are out for a walk. To get the dog to follow your command, hold a treat in your hand (have one in the other hand, also). Hold your hand open, and when he goes for the treat, close your hand as you say the command "Leave it!" Then offer him the other treat, and discard the one you told him to leave. Repeat this step a few times, and he will learn to "Leave it!" when you tell him to.

Your dog will benefit from a solid exercise routine. Hyperactive dogs are often full of energy they have not spent elsewhere. Exercising your dog prior to training sessions will increase his attention span. Better yet, he'll be calmer at home and less likely to react poorly to external stimulus.

When you train ball-fetching to your dog, prove yourself the leader in the relationship by forcing your dog to return to you with the ball always. If your dog places the ball someplace else and you make the effort to pick it up, you are showing that your dog is in fact the leader. By doing this, your dog starts to learn what you want from him.

Dog-proof your home if you know that your dog is prone to chewing and biting everything in sight when the family is out. If you don't want to crate your dog, you will have to act as if there is a baby in the house and remove access to those things that your dog may get into when you're gone.

Understand that training takes time. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking a dog is 'untrainable' when things don't go according to plan immediately. Some dogs respond to commands sooner than others, and it is usually according to breed and age. If you have adopted an older dog, it may take a long time, as he will already be set in his ways. Remember to be patient, and understand that a dog always wants to please his owner in the long run.

Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for man's best friend.
